Notables-Wagner won three event titles and finished second in three others-Saints won six event titles
SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's track & field team trailed rival University of Wisconsin-Superior after Friday night's events, but rallied to win on Saturday by 30 points to capture its seventh consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Indoor Championship.
Day 1On Friday night,
Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) set a meet record in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 8.45. The Saints qualified six runners into Saturday's finals.
Wagner then went on to capture the UMAC title in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 51.85. Wagner also won the long jump title with a personal-best mark of 21'10.25" (6.66m).
Kenneth Jinkins (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) was second with a leap of 21'2" (6.45m) and
Corey Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown HS) third.
Anderson went on to break a program, meet and facility record in the high jump, clearing 6'7" (2.01m) to win the high jump title.
Jeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) won the weight throw with a mark of 56'5.75" (17.21m).
The 4x200m relay team of
Mike Naumann (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS),
Aaron Egelkraut (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS),
Luke McKenzie (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) and
Kyle Beck (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) was second with a time of 1:34.77.
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) was third in the 5,000m run, posting a time of 15:33.81.
After day one, the Saints sat second with 86 points, 10 points behind leader UW-Superior.
Day 2Wagner began day by winning the 60m hurdles championship with a time of 8.53. Jinkins was second at 8.89 and Naumann third at 9.02.
Wagner was second in the 60m dash, posting a time of 7.26. Jinkins was third at 7.35. He was also runner-up in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 23.15. Jinkins again followed Wagner in third. Finally, Wagner was second in the pole vault, clearing 12'5.5" (3.80m).
The 4x400m relay team of Egelkraut, Naumann,
Mason Gracia (Houston, Texas/Prior Lake HS (Minn.)) and McKenzie won with a time of 3:31.43.
McKenzie was runner-up in the 800m run with a season-best time of 1:57.56. Anderson was second in the triple jump with a mark of 41'10" (12.75m). Jinkins was third with a mark of 41'1" (12.52m).
Gallagher set a meet record, but finished third in the 3,000m run with a personal-best time of 9:01.15.
Peterson finished second in the shot put with a mark of 47'9.25" (14.56m).
Final Team ScoresThe Saints won with 235.5 points. UW-Superior was second with 205.5 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was third with 83 points. Bethany Lutheran College was fourth with 57 points.
Up NextThe Saints will be at the Pointer Qualifier, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next Saturday.
