Notables-Northwestern wins second straight UMAC Tournament championship-CSS' 13 wins is its fewest since the 2007 season-Gunderson moves into second place all time for career total wins (106)
MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team was hoping for a change of fortunes against the University of Northwestern on Saturday in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament championship at the Baseline Tennis Center, but the Saints came up short falling 6-3.
Doubles:In order to take down the top-seeded Eagles, the Saints felt they needed to take two of the three doubles matches. Unfortunately, that was not the case as Northwestern won at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The winners for the Saints were
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) at the No. 2 spot. All three doubles scores were 8-5.
Singles:The Saints needed to then win four of the six singles matches, but the Eagles put the match away, winning the top four flights.
Singles winners for the Saints were
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) at No. 5 by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and Samz at No. 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-3.
The Saints end their season 13-10 overall and say goodbye to standout senior
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS). For future information on the St. Scholastica women's tennis team, keep checking
