MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team took care of Martin Luther College 8-1 late Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center to advance to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament championship.
Doubles:The No. 1 team of
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) won by an 8-4 score. The No. 2 tandem of
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) shut out their opponents 8-0. The No. 3 duo of
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) won 8-1.
Singles:Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 3) blitzed by her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Risako Oya (Chiba, Japan /ShowaGakuin Shuei HS) (No. 6) dropped just one game to win by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Gunderson (No. 1) and Samz (No. 4) both were victorious by 6-1, 6-2 scores. The final winner was
Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) (No. 5) by scores of 6-1, 6-4.
The Saints (13-9) will face the University of Northwestern for the UMAC Tournament Championship tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Northwestern defeated Bethany Lutheran College 9-0 in the other semifinal match.
