DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's track & field team won 10 events to claim the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Indoor Championship for the sixth straight year on Saturday at the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse.
The Saints won with 232 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was second with 120 points. Bethany Lutheran College was third at 103 and the University of Northwestern was fourth with 54.
On Friday, the Saints won had four event champions.
Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) won the 5,000m finishing in 15:53.72.
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) was second and
Adam Wallenta (Eagan, Minn./Farmington HS) fourth.
Luke McKenzie (Taylors Falls, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) was runner-up in the 400m dash, posting a time of 53.09.
Corey Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown HS) won the high jump crown, clearing a UMAC meet record height of 6'5" (1.96m).
Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, Minn./Cleveland HS) was third.
Alex Horoshak (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) took the long jump with a personal-best leap of 21'9.5" (6.64m). Anderson was runner-up and
Patrick Murphy (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was fourth. Anderson had personal-best marks in both events.
Jeremy Peterson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and
Ryan Murphy (Spooner, Wis./Spooner HS) had identical top marks in the weight throw at 53'0.25" (16.16m), Peterson was declared the winner with the better second mark. Murphy throw was a personal-best.
On Saturday, McKenzie captured the 800m title with a time of 1:57.83. Wagner won the 200m dash, posting a personal-best time of 22.99. Wagner was also runner-up in the 60m dash with a time of 7.30.
Anderson won the triple jump with a mark of 42'7" (12.98m). Horoshak was second in that event. Peterson won the shot put with a UMAC record mark of 48'5.25" (14.76m).
Riley Niebuhr (Wells, Minn./United South Central HS (Minn.-Duluth)) took the pole vault crown, clearing 14'3.25" (4.35m).
The 4x400m relay team of
Aaron Egelkraut (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS),
Mason Gracia (Houston, Texas/Prior Lake HS),
Tony Anselmo (Bigfork, Minn./Bigfork HS ) and Wagner capped off the event with winning time of 3:31.63.
Lawson and
Tim Dunstan (Dollar Bay, Mich./Dollar Bay HS) placed second and third in the mile run with times of 4:25.85 and 4:47.46, respectively.
Josh Trosen (Hackensack, Minn./Nevis HS) and
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) were also second and third in the 3,000m run with times of 9:26.31 and 9:33.43, respectively.
The Saints will compete at the Pointer Qualifier, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, next weekend. Action begins at 10:30 a.m.
