NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team rebounded nicely from a heartbreaking Wednesday road loss to convincingly sweep the Martin Luther Knights in a Saturday afternoon road contest.

The Saints came roaring out of the gate in the first set, quickly opening up a 6-1 lead on a pair of kills from Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) and three attack errors by the Knights. The teams would exchange points to push the score to 8-3, but CSS would then take five of the next seven points to push the lead to 13-5. The Saints would then battle back and forth to a 19-9 score, prompting a MLC timeout. However, the damage had already been done, as St. Scholastica cruised to a 25-13 victory.

St. Scholastica continued to pour it on in the second set, opening up an early 8-4 lead on four kills from three separate Saints. Following a timeout from the home team, the Knights would rally back to take the next three points to bring the score to 8-7. However, Martin Luther would collapse, allowing CSS to take the next 10 points on five attack errors and two bad sets to blow the game wide open at 17-7. Despite the Knights' best efforts at a comeback, it was déjà vu in the second set, as CSS again would take the set 25-13.

CSS wasted no time in the third set, jumping out to the early lead again, as six Saints kills from five different players gave St. Scholastica an 8-3 edge. After the Martin Luther timeout, the Knights would battle back to quickly bring the score to 9-7. The teams would exchange points to bring the score to 12-9, but another mid-set outburst from the Saints opened up a 17-10 lead. CSS would open up its largest lead of the contest at 21-12 on their final rally, and finish the set and the game at 25-16.
