DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) scored in the second period of overtime of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women's Soccer Championship to give St. Scholastica a 1-0 victory over the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday at Saints Field.

St. Scholastica and Minnesota-Morris played a scoreless first half of soccer to open the UMAC Championship game. Neither team was able to generate much offense with only six total shots in the half and only three on goal. Emma Lachance recorded both of the Cougars shots in the half and Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) provided two of St. Scholastica's four shots.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) made one save for the Saints while Torri Jordan made two saves for the Morris in the first half.

In the second half the Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) desperately tried to break the 0-0 deadlock firing six shots but the Saints could not beat Minnesota-Morris goalkeeper Torri Jordan. Kehtel accounted for eight of St. Scholastica's 13 total shots in regulation. Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) made three saves for CSS.

With the score still tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation, the UMAC Championship would need overtime to settled.

Minnesota-Morris took two shots in the first period of overtime with one requiring a save from Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ). CSS managed one shot but it wasn't on frame.

It looked the UMAC Championship might need penalty kicks to be decided when the game still hadn't produced a goal in 105 minutes of soccer. Then at the 5:15 mark of the second 10-minute overtime period Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) scored the golden goal for CSS to win the UMAC Championship tucking a shot into the low right corner after Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) made a perfect pass to put her through on goal. The goal is Mitchell's third of the season.

CSS goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) made five saves in a shutout effort and did not allow a goal throughout the UMAC playoffs.

The win gives St. Scholastica its fourth straight UMAC Championship with all four victories coming against Minnesota-Morris.

The Saints will also now represent the UMAC in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The selection show for the tournament will take place at Noon on Monday on NCAA.com
