Saints Advance to UMAC Championship

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team got a pair of goals from Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) en route to a 4-0 victory over Northland College on Tuesday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinal contest at Saints Field.

The Saints got on the board in the 13th minute when Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) put home a cross from Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) to make it 1-0. Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) was also credited with an assist. CSS made it 2-0 in the 29th minute on a Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) goal off of a corner kick. Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Kehtel had the assists.

Lauren Lynch (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) gave the Saints a 3-0 lead 17 minutes into the second half with a strike from 30 yards out. Kaylee Benson (Nowthen, Minn./Anoka HS) had the assist. The final goal of the afternoon was Carlson's second of the day in the 78th minute. Williamson had the assist to make the final score 4-0.

The Saints out-shot Northland 33-1 in the game, including 20-0 in the first half. Kehtel was held without a goal for the first time in 11 games, but ran her point streak to 12 games.

Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) did not have to make a save to earn her seventh shutout of the season. Jessica Jaeckel had 13 saves in the loss for the Jills. Northland's season ends with a 9-8-3 record.

The Saints (17-2-1) will face the University of Minnesota Morris for the third straight year in the tournament championship game on Saturday. Morris defeated Martin Luther 6-0 in the other semifinal today. Saturday's championship will either begin at 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. at Saints Field depending on how the CSS men do in their semifinal tomorrow. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
