Volleyball Bounces Back to Sweep Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS – The St. Scholastica volleyball team recovered quickly from its five-set loss at Northwestern College the previous night to sweep Crown College on Saturday afternoon by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-17.

The Saints never trailed at any point in the match as they used a 10-1 run to take control of the first set, then scored 11 of the final 14 points to take the second set, and registered the first eight points of the third set.

The Saints had a season-best .371 attack percentage in the victory. Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led CSS with 15 kills and 13 digs. Zyvoloski also had four service aces, and three block assists.

Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had seven kills and Paige Hardy (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS), Megan Windschitl (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) and Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) each chipped in with six kills. Hardy is now 10 kills away from 1,000 for her career. Sarah Kurtovich (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had 27 set assists and Nikki Hughes (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern HS) had 12 digs. The Storm fall to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

The Saints (15-6, 5-1 UMAC) have one more week on the road on this stretch of road games and it all begins Wednesday at Northland College to complete the first half of the conference season. The action gets underway at 7 p.m.
