STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's track & field teams sent some members to the Pointer Last Chance Qualifier, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, today.

This meet was the last opportunity for competitors to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next week. The Saints did not have anyone meet the qualifying standards, but did break three school records on the day.

The 4x400-meter relay team of #Stacey Peterson# (Sr.-Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert), #Samantha Johnson# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), #Nikki Hughes# (So.-South Range, Wis./Northwestern), and #Jennifer Plaetz# (So.-Lucan, Minn./Wabasso) broke the program record with a time of 4:02.84 seconds. That time also is faster than the school record outdoor time and is just off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

#Mariah Berg# (Fr.-Bagley, Minn.) broke the school mark in the long jump with a distance of 16'-10.5” (5.14m). The third record was broken by #Alec Seeley# (So.-Cadott, Wis.) in the shot put. She tossed it a record distance of 40'-3.5” (12.28m) to top her old mark.

#Tara Connolly# (Sr.-River Falls, Wis.) just missed her previous school record in the 800-meter run by five-tenths with a time of 2:22.93 seconds.

On the men's side, #Wendell Booth# (So.-Deer River, Minn./Grand Rapids) did not improve on his season-best mark, but did win the long jump with a distance of 22'-8” (6.91m). Booth is currently on the bubble on getting an invite to the NCAA Championships next week. The NCAA will announce who makes the field on Monday. Booth placed fourth at last year's championships to earn All-American status.

Also in the long jump, #Phillip Rien# (Fr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) leaped a season-best distance of 21'-10” (6.65m).

If Booth is named to the NCAA Championships, it will take place next Friday and Saturday in Greencastle, Ind., hosted by DePauw University. If not, CSS will send some members to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 18-20 to open the outdoor season.
