FROM HAWAII TO DULUTH

| By:
DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica head women's soccer coach Dave Reyelts has announced that Hawaii-native Malia Grosskeutz has transferred to CSS and intends to play for the Saints in the fall.

Grosskeutz, who already is attending classes at St. Scholastica this spring, transfers from Lewis & Clark College (Ore.). Grosskeutz is from the Big Island of Hawaii where she attended Waiakea High School.

At Waiakea she was named the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Player of the Year for 2007-2008 season. Grosskeutz was also a BIIF first team selection for the 2006-2007 & 2007-2008 seasons. She was the top scorer in the BIIF league in 2007-2008.

After spending a year at Lewis & Clark, Grosskeutz decided to transfer to CSS following a semester abroad in Australia where she made friends with some St. Scholastica students.

“They told me a lot about the school and how it has a strong pre-med biology program and a great soccer team,” Grosskeutz said. “I'm planning on going to medical school and I won't have a chance to travel around once I finish my undergrad studies, so I really wanted the chance to get out and travel and see more places and experience something different. By transferring to Duluth I feel like I'm able to better prepare myself for med-school, continue to play soccer, and get to experience something new.”

Grosskeutz had never been in negative-degree weather before arriving to Duluth, but according to her she likes the weather more because it changes on a day-to-day basis rather than being sunny and warm every day back home.

The St. Scholastica women's soccer team opens its season on Wednesday, September 1st at home against Macalester College.
