MORRIS, Minn. – Sophomore #Joey Moore# converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to break a 1-1 tie as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team defeated the University of Minnesota-Morris 2-1 on Sunday.

The Saints got on the scoreboard in the 40th minute when #Megan Stingle# registered her second goal in as many days thanks to an assist from #Taylor Cunningham#. The Saints took that 1-0 lead into halftime as they out-shot the Cougars 6-1 in the half.

Minnesota-Morris (6-7-2, 5-3-2 UMAC) evened things at 1-1 in the 71st minute when Crystal Zastrow scored. The goal ended CSS's shutout streak, which spanned nine games, 766 minutes and 36 seconds. In fact, the last time an opponent scored on the Saints was a month ago today at Martin Luther.

The score didn't stay tied up for too long as Stingle drew a foul in the box in the 80th minute to give the Saints a penalty kick. Joey Moore (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) stepped up and beat the goalkeeper to give the Saints the 2-1 advantage.

The Cougars would earn a pair of corner kicks late, but could not get a shot on net as the Saints prevailed 2-1.

#Bailey Mahlum# earned the win in goal for the Saints. Emily Jacob had three saves in the loss for the Cougars. The Saints out-shot the Cougars 10-4 in the contest.

The Saints (9-4-1, 9-0-1 UMAC) have a two game edge in the loss column over second place in the conference and with a pair of wins next weekend can sew up at least a share of the conference regular season championship. The Saints have not lost an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season contest in 81 straight games.

The Saints return home on Tuesday as they will face Augsburg College in a non-conference matchup at Saints Field. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
