DULUTH, Minn. – Northwestern College stayed alive with 8-5 victory over Presentation College in the 2009 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament at Wade Stadium.
The Eagles scored five runs in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. Presentation battled back with four runs in the middle innings, but Northwestern scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to maintain their lead throughout.
Third basemen Mike Strickland led the way for the Eagles with four hits, while lead-off hitter Tyler Sage, designated hitter Kyle Mick, and shortstop Zach Holsman each had three on the afternoon. Sage and first baseman Erik Dahl each had two RBIs.
Zach Lagred pitched eight innings in taking the loss for Presentation, but added two hits and a run batted in. Three other Saints had two hits including catcher Josh Cunningham who knocked in a pair of runs.
With the win, Northwestern stays alive to take on the loser of tonight’s semifinal game between St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m..
