Women's Tennis Opens Spring Break with a Victory

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team opened spring break action with a 7-2 win over The College of Wooster (Ohio) on Sunday.
 
Doubles:
The Saints swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) blanked their opponents 8-0 for their fourth straight victory.
 
The No. 2 tandem of Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) won 8-4. Finally, the No. 3 team of Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) triumphed 8-3.
 
Singles:
The Saints dropped both matches at the top two flights, but showed too much depth in winning the other four singles matches.
 
Hauer (No. 3) won 6-1, 6-4 and Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) had no trouble at the No. 4 spot 6-1, 6-1. Rice (No. 5) came out victorious 6-2, 6-1 and Brascugli (No. 6) was the final winner 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.
 
Up Next:
The Saints (6-3) will take on Hamline University at 10:30 a.m. (ET) tomorrow morning and Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. (ET).
