The Division-II Fighting Sioux from the University of North Dakota were a little to hot for the D-III Saints on Sunday afternoon in Fargo, N.D., taking the inter-division match by a 9-0 score.
The shutout victory by North Dakota (8-3) over St. Scholastica (8-5) was the Sioux's fifth shutout of the season.
UND swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead, then rolled through all six singles matches for the win.
Only St. Scholastica's Casey Ruberto (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold HS) at No. 3 singles was able to win even a set, capturing the second set 6-1 after falling by a 1-6 score in the first. Lindsey Whiting from UND eventually picked up the win over Ruberto with a 7-6 third set victory, winning the tie breaker by a 10-4 score.
The Saints have nearly two weeks off before hitting the courts for their next match as the Beavers from Bemidji State come to Duluth and the Burns Wellness Commons on March 28 for a rematch of an earlier match won by host BSU in late February.
