St. Scholastica opened their 2008 schedule with a match that posed a couple of big challenges for the Saints -- on the road, and up against not only an NCAA Division II squad but a St. Cloud State men's team that captured the 2007 North Central Conference tennis championship.

Other than Scott Hawley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS)'s three set loss at No. 4 singles the match went pretty much as one would expect with the Huskies (1-0) rolling to a 9-0 win in the Gold's Gym Tennis Center on Friday night.

Hawley was part of the other close match of the day partnering with teammate Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) at No. 2 doubles where the tandom battled Huskies Kevin Lukens and Kris Johnson before falling 9-8 to the pair.

Up next for the Saints is a Saturday double-header on the same courts in St. Cloud where they'll open with Wis.-Eau Claire (13-8 in 2007) before squaring off against Concordia-Moorhead (8-8 in 2007) to close out their opening weekend of action.
