LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women’s tennis team defeated Hamline University 8-1 Sunday afternoon at Lifetime Fitness Center to begin the season 2-0.
The Saints swept all three doubles matches. The No.1 team of
Callee Conda (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and
Milly Che Leon (
Fr.-Lima, Peru) won 8-2. The No. 2 team of
Katie Motley (
Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and
Kelly Ross (
Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) improved to 2-0 this season with an 8-2 triumph. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Megan Carlson (
Sr.-Pine City, Minn.) and
Danni Sonnenfeld (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won 8-5.
In singles play, Katie Motley won again at No.1 singles 6-4, 7-5. Callee Conda also won for the second consecutive day 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. After a tight first set, Kelly Ross won going away at the No. 4 flight 7-5, 6-0.
Angela Shields (
Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) had no problems at No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-3. Danni Sonnenfeld had the eighth win on the day for the Saints with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 flight.
CSS improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Hamline falls to 0-2. The Saints improve to 6-1 all-time against the Pipers.
The Saints will take on both St. Olaf College and St. Cloud State in St. Cloud on Saturday, February 20th. The St. Olaf match begins at 1:30 p.m., while the St. Cloud match starts at 4 p.m.
